Media advisory: OHSU addiction medicine experts to share overdose prevention best practices

Media Advisory

What:

Media are invited to interview addiction medicine experts at Oregon Health & Science University during a tabling event at the OHSU Farmers Market Tuesday, Aug. 26.

As part of a week of events during International Overdose Awareness Day, the tabling event will demonstrate OHSU’s persistent efforts to prevent overdose, disseminate evidence-based practices such as getting naloxone in the hands of people who need it, and supporting staff to make health care engaging and supportive for all members of our community.

Despite progress in reducing overdose deaths nationwide, overdoses from illicit substances including fentanyl continue at rates that would have been unthinkable even 10 years ago. Progress in recent years is in part due to efforts to expand access to naloxone – an opioid overdose reversal agent – and in local efforts to increase access to high quality addiction care.
