US News and World Report: OHSU medical and nursing schools rank in top 10 in numerous specialties

Oregon Health & Science University's Schools of Medicine and Nursing are listed several times throughout the U.S. News and World Report's 2012 rankings of America's best graduate schools. Each year, the magazine publishes an overall list of the nation's top medical schools. The magazine also ranks medical schools for their training in certain specialties and nursing schools for their graduate programs. Some of these programs are ranked annually. Other programs are ranked every few years by the magazine.
For the 2012 edition, OHSU's School of Medicine earned the following:
- Ranked 2nd in family medicine training (Tied with the University of North Carolina. OHSU ranked 2nd in 2011.)
- Ranked 3rd in primary care training (3rd in 2011 and ranked highly for several years.)
- Ranked 5th in rural medicine training (Down from 4th in 2011.)
- Ranked 6th in master’s physician assistant (Tied with the Baylor College of Medicine. OHSU ranked 9th in 2007.)
- Ranked 36th in the overall top medical schools in research in the nation (Tied with the University of Southern California. OHSU is up from 37th in 2011.)
Here are the current rankings for the OHSU School of Nursing:
- Ranked 1st in nursing midwifery (Ranked 1st in 2007 and several years previously.)
- Ranked 4th in geriatric nurse practitioner (Ranked 5th last year.)
- Ranked 6th in family nurse practitioner (Not ranked in previous ranking year.)
- Ranked 7th in masters in nursing (Tied with Duke University, Yale University and the University of Pittsburgh. OHSU Ranked 7th in 2007, which is the previous year, this category was ranked.)
In all, 126 medical schools participate in U.S. News and World Report's rankings. Throughout the years, OHSU's Schools of Medicine and Nursing have consistently been ranked as some of the best in the nation. The magazine does not rank dental schools; however, the clinical examination scores of OHSU School of Dentistry graduating dental students are consistently among the best in the nation.
