OHSU’s Free Spring Health Lecture Series Continues

WHAT: The final eight of 13 lectures in the Oregon Health & Science University Ask the Health Experts spring seminar series will occur in March, April and May. Featured speakers are leading experts in their field who will answer questions following the lectures. Topics in the series range among today’s top health concerns, from the latest developments in prevention and detection to treatment options.

• Wednesday, March 3 - Understand how to increase your chances of surviving colorectal cancer.  Daniel Herzig, M.D., F.A.C.S., an OHSU surgical oncologist; and Jone Sampson, M.D., an OHSU cancer geneticist, will talk about who gets colorectal cancer and why, and share the newest methods for treating it.
• Tuesday, March 9 - Cutting-edge research in heart disease: New treatments on the horizon. Jonathan Lindner, M.D., an OHSU cardiologist, will share the latest research and what it could mean for treating heart disease in the future.
• Wednesday, April 21 - Treating sciatica and bulging discs. Alex Ching, M.D., an OHSU orthopaedic surgeon, will discuss how to stop back pain, including new treatments and therapies for easing low-back pain and sciatica caused by disc problems.
• Wednesday, April 28 - Cancer doesn’t care how old you are. Brandon Hayes-Lattin, M.D., an OHSU oncologist, will talk about the unique issues that adolescents and young adults face when battling cancer. The OHSU Knight Cancer Institute has the only program in Oregon exclusively for teens and young adults with cancer.
• Tuesday, May 11  - Hip and knee pain: The latest in non-operative and surgical options. Thomas Huff, an OHSU hip and knee specialist, will share important nonsurgical and surgical advances in joint care for arthritis, sports injuries and aging joints.
• Wednesday, May 19 - Is it a Stroke? How to know and what to do about it.  Wayne Clark, M.D., an OHSU neurologist, will discuss how to recognize the signs and symptoms of stroke, and provide proactive tips for reducing your risk of having one.

The lectures are free and open to the public.
